320 Lamarque Street:
New residence on the north shore of Lake Pontchartrain in Louisiana. A massive 200+ year old live oak tree in the front yard called out for a full glass front facade for the great room to enjoy the majestic oak. The client desired a contemporary design even though it was in the Mandeville Historic District. The slender smooth pipe columns and vertical iron porch railing juxtaposed against the organic canopy of the oak allows the house to sit close, but not compete with the massive trunk and sprawling limbs of the oak. Vertical board and batten siding ties the simple raised rectangular volume in with the modest early 20th century cottages in the district. North facing clearstory windows run from the front porch to the back of the house shedding diffused light into the great room and the length of the center hall. The 1st Floor was elevated with timber piles an additional 3’-6” feet above the Base Flood Elevation for parking and storage under the house.
